Everyone who uses cannabis is probably a fan of the high they get from the psychoactive THC laden inside of it. But on the other hand, there is CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive substance that is therapeutic in nature. CBD is one of over 60 compounds found in cannabis that belong to a class of ingredients called cannabinoids. THC gets most of the attention surrounding cannabis because of how much fun it is, but people are coming around on the CBD issue because of how clearly it helps with so many health conditions. In fact, there are many states who do not allow medical cannabis but allow CBD oil instead. Such states are probably on their way to assessing the benefit of medical cannabis as a whole industry, but for the moment they prefer just to have the therapeutic component CBD instead.

According to a study performed in 2013 by the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, CBD benefits include acting as an anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antioxidant, antiemetic anxiolytic and antipsychotic agent. As a result, it’s CBD is great for treating neuroinflammation, epilepsy, oxidative injury, vomiting and nausea, anxiety, and schizophrenia.
CBD receptors are found mostly in the immune system, and they seem to reduce inflammation and certain kinds of pain. Although cannabinoids all have similar structures, they display a wide array of actions at each of the different receptors. Scientists have found that CBD has a little effect on the brain because its interactions with the CB1 AND CB2 receptors.
CBD is great for natural pain relief and evidence suggests that cannabinoids may prove useful in pain modulation by inhibiting neuronal transmission in pain pathways. A study done on rodents was able to prove that CBD significantly suppressed chronic inflammation and neuropathic pain without increasing tolerance. Leading researchers to believe that cannabinoids may possess therapeutic qualities in the treatment of pain.
This great cannabinoid also has the potential to help those dealing with psychotic episodes, such as schizophrenia patients and others with mental health problems. CBD appears to have a pharmacological profile similar to that of atypical antipsychotic drugs as seen using behavioural neurochemical techniques in animal studies. Additionally, studies show that CBD prevents human experimental psychosis and is effective in open case reports and clinal trials in patients with schizophrenia.
Studies using animal models of anxiety and involving healthy volunteers clearly suggest an anxiolytic-like effect of CBD. It has proven especially helpful for those suffering from social anxiety disorder, but researchers say it may also be successful in treating those with panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. A very interesting study was done to corroborate these findings. A total of 24 never treated patients with social anxiety disorder were given either CBD or a placebo 1.5 hours before the test. It was found that pre-treatment with CBD significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment
A total of 24 never treated patients with social anxiety disorder were given either CBD or a placebo 1.5 hours before the test. It was found that pre-treatment with CBD significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in the speech performance. Additionally, it also significantly decreased alertness in anticipation of their speech.
One claim proponents of CBD medicine are starting to make, is that is helps cure cancer. That is a huge claim, and there is some evidence to back it up. Several studies have demonstrated that CBD benefits include possessing anti proliferative, pro-apoptotic effects that inhibit cancer cell migration adhesion and invasion. One such study, published in the journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, found for the first time that CBD potently and selectively inhibited the growth of different breast tumour cell lines.
To add to this, another study done in 2011 found that CBD induced a concentration-dependent cell death of breast cancer cells. They also found that the effective concentrations of CBD in tumour cells have little effect on non-tumourigenic mammary cells. Mostly this is due to the fact that CBD behaves as a non-toxic compound and studies show that doses of 700 milligrams per day for 6 weeks did not show any overt toxicity in humans. This suggests that CBD can be used for long courses of treatment.
While it is obvious that cannabis helps reduce nausea, CBD helps play a pivotal part in this role. In studies done on rats, it was found that CBD contained anti-nausea and antiemetic effects. They found that CBD acts in a diphasic manner, meaning that in low doses it suppresses toxin-induced vomiting.
People have found that CBD is particularly good at dealing with seizures. Some people have their lives taken over from the incidence of seizures and they are extremely disruptive. In a study done on those with severe to moderate epilepsy, it was found that CBD was the most beneficial course of action. Of the entire study, some experienced no seizures while taking CBD and others experienced a dramatic decreased in seizure incidence. There are quite a number of people out there with seizure disorders who swear by CBD oil, so the evidence is building.
The value that CBD brings to the table is huge. It offers many therapeutic benefits. As more studies are done on it’s value in drug applications chances are access will proliferate. It’s great for so many things, I’ve only covered a few of them here, but the list is growing as more research is being done. So go out and try CBD as a remedy for what ails you. You might find it dramatically reduces your symptoms.
